tonari is a startup company founded in 2018 that develops tonari, a communication tool that connects two spaces via a life-size screen. tonari began selling to corporate customers in 2020, and has so far been installed in 7 companies: JR East, ITOCHU Techno-Solutions, Okamura, Sompo Japan, Sompo Japan Insurance Japan, Frontier Consulting, Freee, and Singapore. tonari" is a life-size video system that seamlessly connects two remote locations without delay*. The system's natural eye line matching mechanism, clear audio, and low latency provide a sense of presence that allows people in separate rooms to spend time together as if they were in the same room.
The delay that humans can feel is said to be 150 milliseconds, and "tonari" achieves 120 milliseconds, which is less than that.
With the introduction of this system, it is expected that the system will be used not only for specification reviews and demonstration experiments in "manufacturing," which has been difficult with conventional online conferencing systems, but also for interactions that are unique to an incubation facility for R&D venture companies, such as incorporating users' ideas and technologies into this system. The system can also be used to incorporate users' ideas and technologies into the system.
COG, as a social implementation center for research and development venture companies, will continue to build an environment for the implementation of startup technology and collaboration between companies to create a place where technology that will be implemented in society can be born from COG.
